Wellspring of Joy

Luke 6:12-13

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.

Pondering Point

Pulling an all-nighter. In the context of your life, what would you deem so valuable that you would stay up all night worrying praying about it ahead of time?

Jesus values disciples – and spent an entire night praying with His Father before hand-picking the original twelve. Jesus is still praying (Hebrews 7:25) and He is still looking for more disciples to join in His Father’s business. Jesus later reminded those first disciples,
You did not choose Me, but I chose you...

Let these words of Jesus resound in your ears and settle on your soul. Say them aloud on His behalf:
I chose you… I chose you.

For what purpose did he choose them (and us)? To be a part of His kingdom (1 Peter 2:9) and bear lasting fruit for God (John 15:16).

I hope that you have a sense of confidence that Jesus has chosen you to be part of His family and the family business. He doesn’t choose us to all do the same things, but rather to serve different roles within His body.

Record in your journal a few words of reflection on being chosen by Jesus and how He has shaped you for helping in the family business:

Prayer

Lord Jesus, deepen my sense of belonging to You. Deepen my sense of calling from You as well. I desire to celebrate both my place in Your kingdom and the place of others in Your kingdom too. In You I pray. Amen.
