Disciples Share Jesus’ Heart to
Participate in the Lord’s Supper Together

The Last Supper, The Lord’s Table, Holy Communion, the Eucharist: These are all descriptions of the sacrament commonly referred to as the Lord’s Supper. This meal, along with a few other awesome mealtimes with God, are the focus of our devotions this week.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You have given us such a blessing in this meal that we call Your Holy Supper. Let us benefit from it, hold both it and You in great honor by how we share it, and rejoice in the connection it foreshadows of a heavenly reunion with You and our brothers and sisters who have died in faith. Amen.

John 21:12

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.

Pondering Point

We often focus on the Lord's Supper as "the meal" that Jesus had with His disciples. But He had many meals with His disciples over the years. Some were very significant, like this one in John 21 after His resurrection.

In Revelation 3:20, we find Jesus’ encouragement to come eat with Him.

And let's not kid ourselves: We know Jesus didn't mean simply eat food together, but rather share life together. Still today in the Middle East, sitting down together to share a meal is a powerful statement, meaning much more than simply sharing food.

Are you taking time to share life with Jesus and invite Him into all arenas of your life?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, eating is such an integral part of life. I want to break bread with You more often; remind me to invite You into my meals – to fellowship together. More than that, I want You to be more integrated in my life than food. I want You to be what I hunger for above all things. Let it be so in Your name Jesus. Amen.
