Prayerfully Re-Center Around God
Acts 13:1-3
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
Pondering Point
In Acts 13, the Spirit directs the praying people to send out Barnabas and Saul (who later becomes the Apostle Paul). Being prayerful is not always about speaking but also about listening. Out of such listening came the missionary activity of Paul and Barnabas. Let’s review our lives of prayer:
Review
Does your prayer life (individually and with others) include time to listen for directives from the Holy Spirit? Does your prayer life include fasting and worship?
Repent (if necessary)
for…
- Failing to listen as part of your prayer life
- Failing to fast as part of your prayer life
- Failing to worship as part of your prayer life
- Failing to pray with a group of other believers
Return (as necessary)
Go to God in prayer, even practicing any omissions from the above list.
Consider fasting a meal and praying instead. Have a plan to listen (and record any observations) and worship (music is a great help in this aspect).
Consider meeting with other believers to pray and listen as a group.
Prayer
"God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer." (Mother Teresa)
