God’s Mission
John 19:28-30
Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Pondering Point
Jesus put all he had strength-wise into his ministry – to his Father, to the disciples, to the crowds, even spilling over to the Samaritans and other non-Jews. Finally, at his crucifixion, we see his life of selfless service and sacrifice “end” with a sin-atoning death. That is example number one of loving God (and your neighbor) with all of your strength.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, teach us how use all of our strength to live and die as you did – out of love for God the Father. I want to see my strength exhausted and renewed, exhausted and renewed – over and over, each time for God. I am your student. Teach me. Amen.
