Discipleship Response
Matthew 5:14, 16
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.… In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
~Jesus
Pondering Point
If the upcoming prayer feels familiar, it is: we used a similarly worded prayer yesterday. But whereas yesterday we focused on ourselves receiving light in the darkness, now we will be praying that God’s light shines through us into the darkness around us. But first a review of our light-shining abilities and the potential hindrances to His light shining through us.
Review
Hindrance-wise, are you participating in deeds of darkness such as sexual immorality, greed, dishonesty, or selfish ambition, are you harboring dark attitudes or emotions such as anger, envy, bitterness or hatred? Luminosity- wise, are you staying connected to God's word and His Spirit?
Repent if Necessary
Repent of any light-hindering situations in your life and renounce your participation in them. Repent if necessary of neglecting to stay connected to God's word and Spirit as light producers in you.
Return as Necessary
Commit to live in God's Word, under God's Holy Spirit and aligned with God's will for your life, including resisting all temptation to return to acts and attitudes associated with darkness.
Prayer for the Day
Lord God, let there be light. Let Your light shine deeply and brightly through me into worlds of darkness around me. Let others feel the warmth and insight of Your enlightening ways. As You and Your glory were displayed in the face of Christ, so be displayed in my face and attitude and actions as well. In Jesus’ name I ask this. Amen.
