God's Mission

John 7:37-39

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. ~ Jesus, John 7:37-39

What do you hunger and thirst for? Make a list. How would family and friends answer this question about you? Ask and add to your list.

And… What does God hope and desire for you under the leadership of His Holy Spirit? List it.

Prayer

Spirit of God, gift of Jesus, come slake my thirst. Flow in me, through me, over me, out of me. Let me become what Father God wants me to be. Let me live by You, bringing glory to God in all I think, say, and do. Amen.

Micro-Group Moment:

Considering Apostle Paul's life as a case for participating in Micro-Groups

Acts 13:1-5

1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. 2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

On Cyprus
4 The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. 5 When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

This week’s description of the Apostle Paul’s Micro-Group life has a connection to an episode of fasting that occurs in the church. Visit that story in Acts 13:1-5 and think through the following question with a Micro group of friends.

  • Who put together this traveling micro-group? Who were the participants? From what kind of group did they come out of?
  • How do you imagine that the Holy Spirit communicated His desire to this group? How might God communicate with you?
  • How would you react to being set apart by God to join a group of people called to carry out a ministry task?
