Prayerfully Re-Center Around God
Luke 23:44-46
It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
Pondering Point
In a dark moment, we hear Jesus yield His spirit into the Father’s hands. This is a great learning moment for us in our dark moments. You know what to do: commit! Commit yourself into the Father’s hands.
Review
What dark moments are you facing at this point? They might revolve around relationships or direction in life. Think also about your personal struggles, identity, and self-image. It might be about adverse consequences related to poor choices by yourself or others.
Repent if Necessary
What sources outside of God have you been leaning into for answers? What choices have you made to avoid or temporarily escape uncomfortable moments? Repent of looking beyond God for direction, comfort or support.
Return (as necessary)
If you admit that you have not committed your spirit solely into God’s hands, do it now. Here is a prayer to assist you in doing just that:
Prayer
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit. I ask You to build an unwavering faith in me that parallels the trust I see Jesus having in You. I bring these specific things before You now… (list what came to mind during devotions)… In Jesus’ name. Amen.
