Disciples share Jesus’ heart of compassion
for taking care of (ministering to) His disciples

Mark 6:34 highlights Jesus’ compassion for the crowds that sought Him out, but it is His compassion for His closest disciples that leads to an invitation in Mark 6:31 to come away with Him to a quiet place for rest.

That verse sets the tone for our theme this week in Immersion. It is good to know Jesus looks to care for His disciples. It also makes sense that we would look to minister to each other as disciples of Jesus, thus becoming more like our Lord and Savior.

Mark 6:31

Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, [Jesus] said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Pondering Point

Since the bible teaches that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, we can imagine that His compassion still compels Him to invite us disciples into “quiet places” to get some rest. Resist any temptation to exempt yourself and consider His invitation to come away – Come away and rest WITH him.
