Disciples Follow Jesus...
"close enough to touch Him"

The phrase “close enough to touch Him” comes from our bible story for the week in which a woman who has suffered terribly for years seeks to connect with Jesus for the purpose of finding healing through Him.

It was a physical touch she aimed for, but a spiritual touch that she hoped for in the end. Although we are not able to touch Jesus physically (yet!), His spiritual touch is what we can hope for as well.

Luke 8:48

Then [Jesus] said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Pondering Point

These words of Jesus "go in peace" get used a lot in church circles. In this case the phrase follows on the heels of an affirming relational designation of "daughter" and the fulfillment of her heart's desire to be healed. Those two experiences would make it a lot easier for that woman to go "in peace".

I'll tell you what though, she went to great effort to put herself in such a position, getting close enough to touch Jesus in pursuit of that desire. Jesus defined this as an act of faith. Rather than being disturbed by her audacious approach, he commended her, sending on her way.

So, get close to Jesus, close enough to touch Him; be bold, in the face, and ask Him for the kind of peace that comes with His divine power moving in your life. Do you think Jesus still uses His divine power?

I do!

Prayer

Jesus, whether it be physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, come bring healing using your divine power in our lives for the sake of wellness in your kingdom – for your kingdom. Amen. Now… go in peace.
