Discipleship Point

Matthew 7:12

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
~ Jesus

The discipleship point is to do unto others as you would have done to you. Having this come from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount further encourages us to hear His conclusion to that sermon in which we are told to be like the wise man and put these words into practice.

The wise man is the one who built his house on the rock, and whose house stood under the battering of storms. And who lives without storms that rock our world. Wise up friends!

Discipleship Prayer

Father God, I want to put into practice all the teachings of Jesus, but particularly this one to do unto others as I would have it done to me; let nothing dissuade me from being a wise follower of Your Son, my Lord Jesus Christ; in His name I pray. Amen.

Micro-Meditation Scripture

Psalm 119:17-24 (Gimel, 3rd letter)

  1. Be good to your servant while I live,
    that I may obey your word.
  2. Open my eyes that I may see
    wonderful things in your law.
  3. I am a stranger on earth;
    do not hide your commands from me.
  4. My soul is consumed with longing
    for your laws at all times.
  5. You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed,
    those who stray from your commands.
  6. Remove from me their scorn and contempt, for I keep your statutes.
  7. Though rulers sit together and slander me,
    your servant will meditate on your decrees.
  8. Your statutes are my delight;
    they are my counselors.

Pondering Point

From whom or what do you draw counsel? Would you describe what you receive as godly counsel?
