Theme: Jesus intentionally comes and immerses Himself in relationship with
God and us…
to bring us the truth
James 4:13-17
Boasting About Tomorrow
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17 If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
• I am a worshiper of Jesus and will come to worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
Pondering Point
Re-read James 4:13-17 and then re-read the identity statement above. Worship, like a lot of things in life that don’t cry loudly for attention, can easily be set aside with the thought that it will always be there tomorrow, next week, or once things lighten up a bit. But truth be told, you don’t know that tomorrow will be there. Live out of your identity as a child of God now rather than later – and live out of that identity first!
Prayer
Father God, build in me a healthy attitude that is always aware of Your overarching will in my life. Help me to not get ahead of myself with plans, but to always defer to Your greater knowledge and wisdom whenever things go other than I desire to see them go. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Proverb for the Week
Proverbs 14:8
The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to
their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.
