Discipleship Point and Prayer
FRIDAY'S BIT OF
DISCIPLESHIP
Proud leaders and humble leaders have something special in common: neither of them knows it. For the proud believe them-selves sufficiently humbled to get on with their "great things", while the humble (not falsely humble, i.e. self-disparagement, but genuinely humble of heart) believe themselves to be sufficiently proud to mandate more listening and learning. Both leaders are deceived, but which would you rather be?

Humility Prayer
Father God, only you know me fully. Don’t let my self-deception lead to ungodly perspectives and attitudes. I pray to avoid pride and false humility. I pray to exhibit godliness and true humility. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
MISSIO DEI
Discipleship Point
So, what then is the meaning of being sent into the world?
Because it is the object of Christ’s redeeming love, the world is on the receiving end of the sending of God and the mission of the church. Being sent means that the community of saving faith is fully aware that it is sent to more than the church.
The community of faith and mission is committed to being sent into the “world” of people who were created in the image of God. God created humankind with spirit, reason, and senses, with ways of thinking and logic, with relationships, with emotions, with language and communication, with actions and interactions, with learning, wisdom, and material things.
See the following Scriptures in your bible or on pp. 248-249 of The Great Sending book: John 17:14-16, John 17:18, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, 8:17-18, Philippians 1:29
Discipleship Prayer
Lord Jesus, help our church (myself included) to see the world as the recipient of Father’s grace and forgiveness through You. Help us further to see them as in God’s image – endowed with spirit, reason, senses, and ways of thinking and logic. Though warped by sin, all can be redeemed by Your work of righteousness. In Your name Jesus I pray. Amen.
