Pondering Point
For the moment, let's set aside our God-given call to love our neighbors and to love God and focus on the love Jesus has for His friends. According to Jesus, "There is no greater love than laying down your life for your friends." To know the setting of this conversation is to know that it occurred in opening hours of what we term “Good Friday” of Holy Week, the very day that Jesus lays down his life. What a friend we have in Jesus -- all our sins and griefs to bear!
John 10:18
No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.
Prayer for the Day
Lord Jesus, my Savior and my friend, thank You for laying down Your life for me and Your other sheep. I pray that I learn to appreciate such depth of love and practice a version of it in my own life as well – bringing glory to God our Father as You did with Your life. Amen.
