Discipleship Response

John 15:14-15

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Pondering Point

While there may be many teachings associated with Jesus, the context of this statement is a particular command to love each other as He loves us – our theme for the week.

What makes us friends of Jesus is loving people like Jesus loved people, which happens to be the family business. Let’s review how you're doing with your role in God’s family business:

Review

Placeholder Picture

Do you see yourself as part of the family business with Jesus? Could you describe that business to someone? Are you being obedient to His command? Do you settle for loving certain people but withhold love from others?

Repent if Necessary

Repent of loving some people but withholding love from others, of failing to love in godly ways, or forgetting what line of business you are part of.

Return as Necessary

Have a “business meeting” with the Owner and His Son. Seriously, take time to have a meeting and ask for direction in carrying out the Master’s business.

Jesus calls you His friend and calls you into His life’s work of bringing people back to the Father. As a friend of Jesus, as an ambassador for Christ, may Christ’s love compel you to no longer live for yourself but for Him who died for you (2 Corinthians 5:14-15).
