God's Gospel Truths
Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Pondering Point
When we pray to Jesus, we pray to Someone whose heart breaks over people who are hurting (maybe even you). He sees them/us like sheep without a shepherd, harassed and helpless. And it leads Him to say to His disciples -- His followers – Pray: Pray for workers to harvest in this plentiful field of hurting people. So, if you don’t already do so, include this prayer among your others. Even now, stop to pray a harvester’s prayer to the One who died for you -- and for all those other sheep. And remember to thank Him for those fieldworkers who helped harvest you into Jesus’ kingdom.
Prayer for the Day
Quoted from the lyrics of Give Me Your Eyes by Brandon Heath (consider listening to the song itself):
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see,
Everything that I keep missing,
Give your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me Your eyes so I can see. Amen.
