Spur one another on
Hebrews 10:24
Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together…
Pondering Point
If you were asked for a strategy to "Spur one another on toward love and good deeds", what would you suggest?
The author to the Hebrews suggests that we meet together. At Hope Lutheran Church, this aligns ideally with our goal to have everyone in weekly gatherings of either small or micro-group size for the sake of discipleship growth. We could easily phrase our ministry as getting together to spur one another on toward love and good deeds. These actions – or lack thereof – are how most Christians are judged by the world. We may like to think someone would judge us by our faith or faithfulness, or by our theological or biblical knowledge.
But in the end – literally – the world isn’t the only entity judging us by our deeds. Jesus Christ Himself, in looking for evidence of faith in you, will look at whatever you did for the least of these, you did it for me (Matthew 25:40). Thank God for the grace given us in Jesus Christ that has enabled us to be saved by faith as Ephesians 2:9 teaches. Now let's continue to practice the good works in Christ Jesus that Ephesians 2:10 points toward.
Prayer for the Day
Father God, help me and my brothers and sisters to keep gathering together to discover ways of spurring one another on in lives of love and good deeds that You desire, letting our faith express itself in love (Galatians 5:6). Let us be intentional in investing in one another to this end, that You might take joy in our lives as we live them for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
