God's Gospel Truths
Luke 10:38-42
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Pondering Point
As we keep in mind the greatest priority of keeping God primary, these verses are a great story to bring that point home. Let nothing, including serving God, get in your way of being with God. And don't buy into a false notion that one is destined to be limited to being like Martha or Mary only. Both can be done with healthy priorities in place. Let's be like Mary when it comes to priorities and then serve out of that been-at-Jesus'-feet influence (sort of like Martha).
Prayer for the Day
Oh Jesus, help me to have a sit-at-Your-feet priority like Mary and then follow that up with a Martha-like action of serving You after learning at Your feet. Amen.
