from the Apostles’ Creed
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son our Lord, who was
crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead.
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission… We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
Maturing is part of the Christian walk, putting ourselves at the feet of Jesus and His Word so that we can be trained to distinguish good from evil. Let us, as the Lenten song cries, “learn from Jesus Christ to pray.” And while we are at it, let’s learn from Him how to reverently submit to God’s will (Hebrews 5:7) and how to love one another (John 13:34).
Lord Jesus, I pray that
I can be trained by Your Word, moving
beyond milk to solid foods, able to use
the truths of Your teachings to distinguish good
from evil; let me grow in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Read the versus of the Psalm.
Mark the words or phrases that catch your attention.
Meditate: talk (or better, write) with God about those words. Ask him to impress things upon your heart and mind; expect responses.
We constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength
How is God asking you to wait on Him? How is God asking you to be strong? How might God be asking you to take heart as you wait on Him?
