Discipleship Point

A Resurrection Testimony

from the Apostles’ Creed

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son our Lord, who was
crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell;
the third day he rose again from the dead.

Hebrews 5:7, 11-14

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission… We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Discipleship Point

Maturing is part of the Christian walk, putting ourselves at the feet of Jesus and His Word so that we can be trained to distinguish good from evil. Let us, as the Lenten song cries, “learn from Jesus Christ to pray.” And while we are at it, let’s learn from Him how to reverently submit to God’s will (Hebrews 5:7) and how to love one another (John 13:34).

Lord Jesus, I pray that
I can be trained by Your Word, moving
beyond milk to solid foods, able to use
the truths of Your teachings to distinguish good
from evil; let me grow in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Micro-Meditation

Psalm 27:7-14

  1. Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
  2. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
  3. Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
  4. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
  5. Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
  6. Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
  7. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
  8. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Read the versus of the Psalm.

Mark the words or phrases that catch your attention.

Meditate: talk (or better, write) with God about those words. Ask him to impress things upon your heart and mind; expect responses.

Isaiah 43:31

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength

How is God asking you to wait on Him? How is God asking you to be strong? How might God be asking you to take heart as you wait on Him?
