Disciples follow Jesus' Mission to Come Pray to the Lord of the Harvest

Next week we focus on going into the world and seeing it as a harvest field. This week we think of coming out from the world to pray about the world as a harvest-field.

But who are we coming to and into which environment are we coming? The first answer is straightforward. We are coming to Father God, the Lord of Harvest.

The second question has more nuance to it. Do we come to church to pray? Surely that is a good answer but can be limiting. Hopefully the church gathered in worship on the weekend lifts this up in prayer. But anywhere two or three gather in the name of Jesus (think micro of 2-4 or your small of up to 15), praying for the harvest is good to do. This too is church by definition as you gather in the name of Jesus.

Luke 13:29

People will come from east and west and north and south and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.

Pondering Point

When Jesus completes the harvesting at His return and begins to celebrate the Feast of the Lamb in His Kingdom, people will have come from the North and the South and the East and the West. There is a inference that for that to happen, God’s people went to north, south, east and west with the message of salvation in Jesus to those corners of the world. How are you bringing the message of God to your corner of the world?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, as we follow you while coming and going in life, we pray that others may encounter you through us so that whether they come from north, south, east or west, they find a place at your table, in your kingdom. Use us while we come and go so that, when the end comes, you will have a harvest to reap from your invitation through us. In Your name I pray. Amen.
