Wellspring of Joy
Hebrews 5:7
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
Pondering Point
What do you make of this Bible verse? Jesus was known to pray (even to the point of death) and was reverent in His submission to God.
How would such a prayer life fit in your sphere?
To answer that, use this analogy: Think of the fervent prayers and petitions of Jesus as a set of clothing that fit Him perfectly. Now replace the name of Jesus in the verse with your name and see how the clothes “fit” you. For instance:
During the days of __[your name]_’s life on earth, s/he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save her/him from death, and _[your name]_ was heard because of her/his reverent submission.
Does this ‘set of clothes’ – a prayer life and reverent submission – fit you? Could you grow into these Jesus-like characteristics? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you become more like Jesus in this way.
Prayer for the Day
Father God, during my days on earth, help me grow into a person who offers up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to You – the One who saves me from death through Jesus Christ, my Lord. In His name I pray. Amen.
