Psalm 27:13-14
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
~ King David
Pondering Point
Joseph waited 13 years.
Abraham waited 25 years.
Moses waited 40 years.
Jesus waited 30 years.
If God is making you wait, you're in good company.
Don’t fear the call to wait – even if there is injustice present. Pray and watch. Watch and pray.
It is not unusual for followers of God to find themselves waiting on the Lord. It was true of Abraham and Joseph, Moses and David too. Whether it is waiting on the Holy Spirit (like the disciples), waiting on prayer to be answered or waiting to be brought home, David reminds us that periods of waiting are followed by goodness from God.
In light of this, take David's advice to be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. And – if you have lapses in patience while waiting remember that Abraham did too (see Genesis 16). That man of faith, credited with righteousness by God Himself, made it through by grace. So can you and I.
Psalm 27:14
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
Prayer for the Day
Father God,
I trust in your timing. From that position of faith, help me to be strong and take heart and wait upon you as my Lord. Grant me strength and endurance while I wait. Encourage me to fill my time of waiting with periods of prayer, singing and treating others kindly.
In Jesus’ name I pray.
Amen.
