Wellspring
of Joy
2 Peter 1:16-18
We [Peter, James and John] did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
~Apostle Peter
Pondering Point
The Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost was not just about displaying God’s power; it was about implanting that power into Jesus’ disciples to help them share His story and make more disciples – by God’s power. Each of these disciples, fearfully and wonderfully made, were empowered to be authorized witnesses as God intended them to be. Today that same Holy Spirit empowers us to be authorized witnesses of Jesus. Though not original eye-witnesses or ear-witnesses, you are still faith-witnesses. He gave you His Holy Spirit and His spiritual authority to display that faith with powerful love and mercy in His name and to God’s glory.
Prayer for the Day
Father God, though I did not get to be an eyewitness to Jesus’ majestic transfiguration or even His death-defying resurrection, He did say, “Blessed is the one who has not seen and yet believes” (John 20:29). I believe that Jesus has died for my sins and that You raised Him from the dead. Bless my faith and my life, my relationships, and my witness to all be full of joy – contagious joy! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
