Context, Context. What is the context of the Apostle Paul seeing God meet all the needs being described in this verse? Paul is thanking the Philippian Christians for sharing from their riches to assist in carrying out ministry in Christ Jesus. Paul is grateful for their gifts, describing them as a fragrant offering that pleases God. From that place of gratitude, Paul lets them know – on the backside of their act of giving – that, just as God met Paul’s needs through the Philippians, He will also meet the needs of the Philippians from His store of riches in Jesus.
Prayer for the Day
Father God, pour out Your riches into our lives through the grace given us in Jesus our Lord: Meet the needs collectively of our renewed minds, our restored souls, our new hearts, and our temple bodies. Meet the needs of our family and vocational relationships, and our friendship in relation to You – all in Christ Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
