Thursday's Discipleship Response

1 Peter 5:6

Humble yourselves, therefore under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

Pondering Point

As God the Son, Jesus trusted God the Father to have His back when He took on human flesh. That included God watching over Him during His mother Mary’s pregnancy and protecting Him from King Herod after His birth. It included multiple attempts on His life during His time of ministry. It included bringing Him back from the dead after His God-planned crucifixion. All that is why it is no surprise that Jesus "humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!" (Philippians 2:8). He knew His trust in the Father was well-placed when He proclaimed from the cross, “Into Your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46).

Let’s review how well-placed your trust is.

Review

Have you humbled yourself before God and agreed to live life on His terms? Do you trust God with your life? Have you committed your life into His hands?

Repent if Necessary

Repent if necessary of continuing to approach life on your terms rather than His. Repent of withholding your trust in God and trying to live for God and self at the same time.

Return (as necessary)

Follow Jesus’ lead and use His words as a basis for humbling yourself before God, saying "for as long as I have breath, I commit my spirit into Your hands."

Prayer for the Day

Placeholder Picture

Father God, inspire me to mold myself after the likes of Your Son Jesus and other humble people of the faith. Help me keep pride in check and not succumb to arrogant attitudes like that of the pharisees. Let me bear even humiliation because I know You are my Defender and will raise me up in Your favor by Your mighty hand. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
